When I look around at the church today and see thousands of denominations - it seems like we're failing pretty miserably.

Today, I get to sit down with Greg Thiessen, who teaches History of Christianity among his other awesome roles at Columbia Bible College. We discuss how the united Church of the New Testament split into the groups we see today, whether or not denominations are a bad thing, and why we all can't "just love Jesus".

Stick around to the end of the episode for a brand new segment: Hot Seat. I saved a super difficult question for Greg for the very end and put him on the spot. Basically, the question is: Can a person deny the Trinity and yet still be saved by Jesus Christ? Greg's answer is interesting, shocking, and something that requires a lot of reflection on my part. If you want to hear some of my post-interview thoughts on Greg's answer, listen to the separate bonus episode, Hot Seat: Can You Deny the Trinity and Be Saved?, which will be released after this episode.

For more about Revolution and access to our blog, check out https://www.revolutionpodcast.ca/

Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/revolutionpod/

Questions, queries, comments, concerns, and various bitter words can be directed to our email: revolutionpodonline@gmail.com

<itunes:duration>01:33:31</itunes:duration>

<podcast:chapters url="https://feeds.alitu.com/3233488/ea0197e7-0570-4314-b21c-ce7ab1938904_chapters.json?t=1752994801000" type="application/json+chapters"></podcast:chapters><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:episode>86</itunes:episode><podcast:episode>86</podcast:episode><itunes:author>Revolution Media</itunes:author>

<itunes:title>Inside Catholicism w/ Father Giovanni Schiesari</itunes:title>
Inside Catholicism w/ Father Giovanni Schiesari

#85

Have you ever wanted to sit down with a Catholic and figure out just what they believe?

Today, I get the chance to have a conversation with Father Giovanni Schiesari, the priest at a local Catholic parish.
We're shaking things up this week!

Last week, the guys took a trip to Powell River, BC, and had an incredible time at a worship night. On today's episode, they discuss everything that went down - along the way, hitting on topics like Reformed vs. Charismatic styles of worship, the relationship between prayer and Scripture reading, and how we should interact with other Christians with whom we differ in matters of practice.

It's a fascinating conversation - so join the guys today!

Note: our promised new series is coming next week! Join us for a conversation on spiritual gifts, kicking off with an episode covering the continuationist vs. cessationist debate.

How are we meant to live our daily lives as Christians? How big is our part to play in sanctification? How do we practically “keep in step with the Spirit”?

In today’s episode, Chase and Quinn are jumping into these big questions, trying to answer them through the lens of their own lives and what the Scriptures teach us about the Holy Spirit and our lives with Him. The Bible has lots to say about this subject, and after musing on dismal winters in the Fraser Valley, the guys begin exploring the many dimensions to this large subject. Theologically, they explore the nature of God, the role of the Holy Spirit in salvation, and how sanctification works. Practically, the exhort, as they tend to, to read the Scriptures and to come into a deeper love of God.

In today's episode, Chase and Quinn are examining what may be a puzzling statement to some: God doesn't want your life to be easy, but He does want it to be good. Isn't this a contradiction in terms? Doesn't a good life mean an easy life?

Join the guys for a discussion of persecution, the sovereignty of God over suffering, and how our joy in the Lord is grown through our most difficult seasons, not our easiest ones.
What does it mean to imitate Christ? Why are we made in the image of God? What is the Law’s relationship with Christians now that we are set free in Jesus?

In today’s episode, Chase and Quinn are jumping into these big questions, trying to answer them through the lens of their own lives and what the Scriptures teach us about the battle between the flesh and the law within our souls. The guys are wading through a lot of theological and biblical territory, and yet the verses they quote and principles they discuss are practical. These are not theoretical ideas, but Biblical passages that can change the way you live. If you struggle living a godly life in a godless world - or if you have a friend or family member you want to counsel - or if you want to hear how many theological principles about God and humanity tie together into a supremely practical teaching: join the guys on today’s episode.

Why would the Bible call Christians slaves?

In today's episode, Chase and Quinn discuss what the Bible actually means when it talks about slavery - spoiler alert: its probably different than what you think. The guys then discuss how being a slave of sin means loving sin and seeking fulfillment in worldly desires. They emphasize the deceitfulness of sinful desires, which promise happiness but ultimately lead to death. And later they delve into how becoming a slave of God involves a shift in perspective and a genuine love for God. They explain that this transformation is not something that can be achieved on one's own, but requires surrendering to God and allowing Him to change one's heart. The discussion centers around the idea that being a slave of God leads to sanctification and eternal life, as opposed to the wages of sin, which is death.

If you have been challenged with this Biblical language, have a friend or family member who finds it offensive, or want to get a deeper perspective on how Christians can follow the Law without being legalists, join the guys for today's episode!

Have you smiled fondly at the idea of the "armour of God" only to find yourself now caught in a spiritual battle? One of the big tragedies in the modern church is the fuzziness surrounding spiritual warfare. What is it? How do we actually practice it? And does it matter for us in the 21st century?

Today, Chase and Quinn are diving into spiritual warfare, seeking clarity from the Bible on all of these questions and more. They discuss what it is - and then dive into an exploration of Ephesians 6, trying to get to the nuts and bolts of what Paul was teaching. If you need teaching, equipping, or encouragement in this realm, tune in to this episode!

Do you believe in the supernatural realities the Bible teaches about? Things like miracles, healings, visions, angels - and yes, demons.

Halloween is just around the corner, and so today Chase and Quinn are diving into what the Bible says about the presence of evil spirits in the lives of believers. Can Christians be possessed? The guys would argue that we need to reframe this question to be more biblical: can Christians be demonized? How real are unclean spirits in our lives, and how can they affect us? What does the Bible have to say about all of this?

The guys walk slowly through the arguments for both answers to this question, and from Scripture make the case that YES, Christian's can be demonized. Their goal is to wake up the Church so that we can pray against the forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:11-12, 18).

Do your prayers feel unfruitful? Do you ever wonder why God wants you to pray if He's just going to do what He will anyways?

In today's episode, Chase and Quinn divine into the topic of prayer and unravel its significance in light of God's sovereignty. While acknowledging the tension between God's control and His commands to pray, they offer insights into the transformative power of prayer. They stress that prayer not only strengthens our relationship with God but also has real impact on our lives and the world around us. Drawing from biblical passages, they discuss the importance of praying continuously and aligning our prayers with God's will. In doing so, they argue, we experience the joy of being in Christ Jesus (which is our only true joy) and glorify God through our praying. By offering insights and personal reflections, the guys encourage you to approach prayer with confidence and joy, knowing that your prayers have significance in the grand design of God's purposes.

<itunes:duration>00:46:12</itunes:duration>

<itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:episode>19</itunes:episode><podcast:episode>19</podcast:episode><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:author>Revolution Media</itunes:author>

<itunes:title>Quinn's Story: Building a Foundation on God</itunes:title>
Quinn's Story: Building a Foundation on God

#18

Do you go days or weeks without reading your Bible? Does church feel like a chore? Is God like a new pair of shoes every other month - nice, but not necessary?

In today’s episode, Chase and Quinn are considering what we do when our spiritual lives are running dry. Do we fall out of love with God? Or maybe, and perhaps more terrifying, were we never in love with Him in the first place? While we all often experience glimpses and fleeting moments of a “deeper connection” with God, we are too easily satisfied by the every day pleasures of our lives. The truth Scripture proclaims is that whatever pleasure is afforded by sex, a successful career, or a stunning social life is so negligible as to be nonexistent next to the blazing pleasure of a passionate relationship with God. If you are feeling wrung out by life, spiritually apathetic, or confused as to why God doesn’t impact your day to day, join the guys today for a discussion on how we deal with being bored of God.

When was the last time you shared your faith with an unbeliever? Does evangelism make you nervous? Are you scared of losing your reputation, of not having answers, or saying the wrong thing?

In today’s episode, Chase and Quinn jump into the hot waters surrounding the spiritual discipline of evangelism. In today’s postmodern society where we aren’t supposed to “push” our beliefs on other people, proclaiming the gospel can seem like an offensive imposition. They’re examining what the true cost of discipleship is - which almost nobody in the modern Western church has to face anymore - what a good “diet” of evangelism is, some practical do's & don'ts, and lots more. If you struggle sharing your faith, if you doubt your ability to represent Jesus, or if you simply need encouragement in fulfilling a vital command from our Lord Jesus, tune in to today’s episode and join the guys as they seek out answers from the Scriptures and their lives, with lots of laughs along the way.

You’ll not only hear some solid theology that will shed light on how to view the role God’s will has in your life, in all of His will’s various aspects - but you’ll be given practical steps to take to begin enacting His will into your life today. Along the way, you’ll hear about red flags on first dates, a few too may jokes, and some personal reflections on how Chase and Quinn have understood the way God’s will has factored into their own life. Do you feel the responsibility to bring them to Jesus, and yet every conversation feels more fruitless than the last? Maybe you've been witnessing for years, and there has been no change. Maybe they have questions that you just don't know the answers to. How are we supposed to evangelize to those close to our hearts?

In today's episode, Chase and Quinn confront these struggles and more. At one point or another, all Christian's must face this question: How do I bring my reluctant loved ones closer to God? Today's conversation touches on many important aspects of the Christian life that feed into this topic, including the character of God, the power of prayer, what it means to walk in faith, and how to do life, fellowship, and love those outside of the Church. Chase and Quinn have within their own friendship been on opposite sides of this struggle - Chase was the unbeliever, and Quinn was the Christian desperate and yet feeling helpless in knowing how to lead Chase to God.
Aren't we better off without religion? Doesn't the Bible denigrate women? Isn't Christianity homophobic?

To wrap up their apologetics series, Chase and Quinn are diving into Rebecca McLaughlin's apologetic masterpiece, Confronting Christianity: 12 Hard Questions for the World's Largest Religion. Rebecca's book engages with all the questions listed above and many more (nine more, in fact). So join the boys as they share their thoughts on the book, if it's worth reading (hint: it is), and as they explore a few of Rebecca's chapters in depth and unpack her brilliant answers to these difficult questions. It's a wide conversation, travelling from recent discoveries in the field of psychology that support ancient Biblical principles to the history of the sexual revolution - if you've seen Rebecca's book and are unsure if you should buy it, or if you've read it and want to hear some deep thoughts on it, or if you just want to spend time laughing with the guys, join the Revolution hosts today for a funny and thought-provoking episode.

Why do we believe the Bible's claims about itself? What proof is there that the Bible is any more the words of God than the Quran or the Book of Mormon? Is it all just a matter of blind faith? Why then would we accept the Bible's teaching as authoritative in our lives?

Today, Chase and Quinn dive into the case for the authority of the Scriptures - which, incidentally, is really a case for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The whole Bible and Christian faith stands or falls on the reality of the resurrection; if it did not happen, Jesus was a lunatic, but if it did, then he is Lord of the universe. Join the guys for a dense yet energetic episode filled with rebuttals to common objections to the historicity of the resurrection along with dozens of arguments for it. If you've ever doubted the Bible or the resurrection, or have friends or family who struggle with these difficult questions, this is the episode for you.

The world appears to be exactly as cold, unpitying, and cruel as we would expect if there was no good, loving, powerful God ruling it. So in the face of evil, from genocide to natural disasters to shattered lives, how dare we claim that God exists? Or as one skeptic put it, "I rather hope God is real; on the last day, he will have to answer to me."

Today, Chase and Quinn tackle the problem of evil. The boys take an honest look at their own lives and give a fair overview of the two other major explanations of suffering: atheism and Buddhism. Then finally they turn to the Bible to seriously examine what God wants to teach us about evil and suffering - and they discover that God's response is one of unimaginable love and comfort. It's a heavy episode, but then again it's a heavy question.

If evolution describes the world perfectly, why do we even need to believe in God? Isn't God just a fairy tale ancient civilizations invented to make themselves feel better - or to explain rain, fire, and the seasons? It's often said that believing in God makes as much sense as believing in Little Red Riding Hood or Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Chase and Quinn are diving headfirst into a series on apologetics, and they're starting it off with a banger of an episode focused on this question: How do we know God exists? The boys explore why this questions matters for you in your life, and then walk through three ironclad arguments that prove there is a divine, spaceless, timeless, immaterial, personal and powerful designer - in other words, that God is real. Tune in if you're facing the terrifying reality of this big question, or if you have a friend or loved one who has asked this question, or if you simply want to be prepared to deal with skepticism as you practice evangelism in our postmodern world.

People often call Scripture reading the "foundational spiritual discipline." But why is that? And even if you understand the significance of the Bible in your life, where do you start reading in this massive tome? And how are you expected to understand its most dense sections?

Today, Chase and Quinn dive into the Bible to answer all of these questions and much more. There's so much to say and not enough time to say it. If you want to experience the rich presence of God and have Him radically impact your life, then go no further. The Bible is the place to go. So join the boys for some laughs about the funnier parts of the good book, as well as a stimulating conversation about the wonders of the word of God and how to mine this treasure for yourself.

The porn industry generates at least $12 billion every year. And that number is only growing. Pornography has become such a normalized part of our world that we don't even realize that modern ad campaigns, the TV shows we watch on Netflix, and modern music videos are all thinly veiled pornography (and not always so thinly veiled). Why does the Church so strongly oppose pornography? Why are we still drawn to it anyways? And why does God care what we do in the privacy of our own bedrooms?

Today, Chase and Quinn tackle these big questions and more. If you or a loved one are struggling with porn addiction, join the guys for a conversation about the devestating effects of porn, why you will never be fulfilled by it, and how you can be free from the shame it creates. Send this episode to those who need to hear it! The topics discussed are important and too often hushed up both in family and Church life. But bringing these things out of darkness into life - that's how they will be overcome.

Success in the world is often violently opposed to God's vision of success. Unfortunately, it's so easy for us in the Church to be driven along by the current of cultural success, often without our even knowing about it.

Today, Chase and Quinn dive headfirst into the murky waters of the cultural lies that drive our lives. Why do we so readily value individual success? What does it mean to live your truth? Should we strive to become one with ourselves? And then the conversation turns to the beautiful biblical response to this cultural wave. The chief end of Man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Join the guys as they unpack these ideas and the direct impact they have on your life and the lives of those around you.

In the very first episode of Revolution Podcast, Chase and Quinn dive into a short series asking questions about disturbing cultural phenomenons that may be driving your life.

We've all heard the statistics of how many young people are walking away from the Church. Weak faith seems like an epidemic sweeping our nation. Join Chase and Quinn as they dive into this epidemic - questioning why it's happening, what we can do about it, and how you as a believer can strengthen your own faith. It's a wide ranging conversation covering deconstruction, biblical literacy, and much much more.
