The Maria That Talks Back is where I talk about relationships, family, faith, Latino culture, generational stuff, bad decisions, hard lessons, and all the little things we grow up accepting without ever stopping to ask why.
A lot of it comes from my own life and from being a Latina, a GenXer, a woman of faith, and somebody who has definitely learned a few things the hard way.
I can be sarcastic. I can be snarky. I might say “what the hell or WTF” more than once.
But underneath all of that, I actually care about why the Latino culture does certain things, why we keep repeating the same things, and why some of the stuff we grew up with still has such a hold on us.
So yeah, I’m going to question things.
I’m probably going to side-eye a few things too.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, we might actually figure some shit out.

And honestly, a lot of it is just stuff we learned because that’s what we saw growing up.

But at some point I started asking… why?

Why do we still do some of these things? Why are women expected to do so much of the taking care of? And when did some of this just become “normal”?

I’m not saying there’s one right answer. I’m just saying the things I’m already thinking that other people may be thinking also, asking the questions people sometimes avoid, and talking about the messy parts of life that are actually worth talking about that people don't like talking about in our Latino culture.

Some episodes will be funny. Some will be serious. Some might make you say, “Girl… no.” And that’s okay.

This is my mess.

Welcome to The Maria That Talks Back.

<itunes:duration>00:04:38</itunes:duration>

<itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:season>1</itunes:season><podcast:season>1</podcast:season><itunes:episode>1</itunes:episode><podcast:episode>1</podcast:episode><itunes:explicit>true</itunes:explicit><itunes:author>The Maria that Talks Back</itunes:author>
