Around 3am March 31st 1949 Ovida Coogler is last seen entering a car in Las Cruces, New Mexico. No one can agree on the description of the car. With so many nefarious men lurking and corrupt law enforcement it is a tall order for the press and the everyday men and women seeking justice for the popular waitress. Her murder remains unsolved but her legacy led to the dismantling of the system that would have abandoned her in the desert.

Levi Harrington, William Brown, and Dr. A.C. Jackson are just three among thousands of black Americans who have been murdered at the hands of white racists in America. Yet, compared to white victims, their stories are less known. To remedy the obscuring of black history and suffering in America we'll be exploring these cases three at a time in chronological order. But before we get to the cases, we need to discuss the history that allowed their deaths to happen and go unpunished in the first place.

Salem Witch Trials Part 3: Rise and Fall of the Court Oyer and Terminer

For a court that only existed for five months, the Salem Court of Oyer and Terminer sure knew how to exacerbate the chaos. The arrests (just under 150) and even the executions of the condemned witches (in the double digits) are not providing relief to any of the main afflicted. Instead, more afflicted, more accusations, and eventually a lot of confessors would overwhelm the system until Governor Phips finally steps in. But there is so much to discuss before he makes that call.

Salem Witch Trials Part 2: Witches at Every Turn

How much damage can be done in three months? Considering we go from 4 to 67 witch suspects, 1 woman dying in jail and another being the first official condemned 'witch' to be hanged in that time, I'd say a lot. And the panic is not staying isolated in Salem Village. It's branching out to other nearby towns. In this episode there is more afflicted, more accused, and a lot more examinations.

Salem Witch Trials Part 1: Trouble is Brewing in the Village

Salem Village has a problem. Okay, maybe a few problems. They didn't have the best relationship with their first three potential ministers. And now, as they finally have their fourth, Samuel Parris, ordained, four village girls have become afflicted and there are ~~three~~ four suspected witches amongst them.
